About Me

I am Andrew Watts, a student here at the University of Florida. I'm a Senior, and I have transferred from Daytona Beach Community College. My major is Zoology and my minor is supposed to be music (see below for what kind of music I listen too). I plan on moving to New Mexico to seek an animal-related job. I've always wanted to live in a quiet place in the country where I can observe wildlife and compose music without having to deal with a lot of people.

I guess it wouldn't hurt to also mention that I'm a born-again Christian.

People always thought I was a nerd, but I can't help it; I'm autistic. I think differently than most people. I find that most people like to do what other people do (like watch sports and listen to loud music and stuff like that); but I choose my own path of life. I don't like sports or loud music, I like things that most people consider trivial. I have always been trying to find the appropriate woman, preferably one who shares my interests and goals in life. I hope I will someday (I have met potential candidates).

I originally came from Deltona which is 100 miles southeast of Gainesville. I spent the first 6 years of my life in Connecticut. I've always been an animal lover throughout my life. My other interests include science-fiction and languages of the world.

I have 2 flying squirrels and a ground squirrel as pets, which are described in my table below, as well as in my pet page. I've kept pet rodents (mice, hamsters, gerbils, rats) for nine years, but sorta gave up on them in favor of squirrels. (Yes, squirrels are rodents too). Also described in the table are gray squirrels on campus who I've befriended; the tamest is Browntail. I am surprised that so many people take squirrels for granted. The are such fascinating creatures.

As mentioned above, I don't listen to what is thought of as "popular" music. The type of music I'm interested in is instrumental New Age and World music. One of my favorite artist is R. Carlos Nakai (a Native American flutist). I like music that is relaxing. I hate rap with a passion.

Here are instrumental groups and composers that I like which I can think of at the moment:
  1. R. Carlos Nakai
  2. Tangerine Dream
  3. Ottmar Liebert
  4. Angels of Venice
  5. Dead can Dance

Here's a table to get you familiar with my furry friends:
Name: Gender: Species: Wild/Pet: About:
Browntail Female Eastern Gray Squirrel (Sciurus carolinensis) Wild Browntail is the tamest squirrel on the campus of UF, and the only one who lets me pet her. As her name implies, her tail is unusually browner than on most of the other squirrels. She also has a black tip on it.
Dude Male (but neutered) Eastern Gray Squirrel (Sciurus carolinensis) Pet, but not mine Dude is owned by Donna Williams who works for the Biochemistry and Cell Science department. She showed me Dude after expressing my interest in seeing him. Dude is about 7 years old, and I think he was a rescued squirrel. He only likes his "mom", nobody else.
Nina Female Thirteen-lined Ground Squirrel (Spermophilus tridecemlineatus) Pet; but not mine Nina is owned by the people who have my pets in their apartment. When I visit my pets every day, I would often see Nina too, even though she's not my pet. She isn't very tame, and is ALWAYS sleeping.
Rakita Female Southern Flying Squirrel (Glaucomys volans) Pet I donated my plasma to buy her. She is Scalisti's mate.
Rikki Female Richardson Ground Squirrel (Spermophilus richardsonii) Pet I bought her from a pet store in Ft. Lauderdale after a friend of mine gave me money to buy her. She's a very lovable pet.
Rusty Male Eastern Gray Squirrel (Sciurus carolinensis) Wild Rusty is UF campus squirrel who is believed to be Browntail's son. He is characterized by a very rusty-red tail, hence his name. Browntail may have carried a recessive gene for red-tailedness and passed it to her son.
Scalisti Male Southern Flying Squirrel (Glaucomys volans) Pet He's my first pet squirrel, I got him shipped to me from Texas about 3 years ago. He's tamer than his mate, Rakita.
Sillyfluff Male Eastern Gray Squirrel (Sciurus carolinensis) Wild I couldn't think of a logical name for this guy, so Sillyfluff just popped out of my mind. He's a UF campus squirrel who will sit on my knee eating peanuts but only if he wants to.

See the above squirrels (except Nina, I don't have a pic of her) come to life in a cool photo cube which I added a spotlight to. You can see me and my squirrel friends out of the cube here.
